En noviembre de 1980, hace 25 años, se editó Double Fantasy que supuso el retorno de John Lennon a la vida pública en forma de disco. Había estado retirado desde 1975 cuidando del hijo que tuvo con Yoko Ono y al que dedica en el disco la balada Beatiful Boy (Darling Boy).
Just Like Starting Over es la canción que arranca el disco y es toda una declaración de intenciones, “Como Volviendo a Empezar”. Había estado en una época muy creativa y prometía grandes resultados. De hecho Milk and Honey el álbum publicado en 1983 (a la derecha) surge de las sesiones de Double Fantasy y ambos tienen portadas fácilmente confundibles.

Unas horas antes de su asesinato, John le firmó a Chapman una copia de Double Fantasy en la puerta del Edificio Dakota.

Pero la canción con mayúsculas de este disco y me atrevería a decir de toda la etapa en solitario de Lennon es Watching The Wheels. Es su respuesta a la gente que le criticaba y le preguntaba qué hacía apartado de la vida pública…
En el número de Noviembre de la revista Q hay un especial conmemorando el 65 aniversario del nacimiento de Lennon y los 25 años de su asesinato en el que las más altas figuras del panorama musical dan su opinión del genio de Liverpool. Es un número muy recomendable porque además regalan un cd con versiones de canciones de Lennon, la mayoría exclusivas, como por ejemplo Badly Drawn Boy rindiéndose en acústico a la pacifista Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
